Aesthetics

The term “aesthetics” is commonly used by landscape architects as a synonym for style or form. Susan Feagin defined modern aesthetics as the “branch of philosophy that examines the nature of art and the character of our experience of art and of the natural environment.” Creating an aesthetically pleasing landscape is anything but simple and straightforward. When we design outdoor spaces, there are many elements that we use to create aesthetically pleasing people places.

Simplicity

The expression “less is more” is used frequently when talking about design in a wide scope of areas. In these designs ornamentation is often substituted with interesting lighting for ambience, rich textures, high-quality, characterful building materials for detail, and bold lines and shapes for impact. In many cases, simplicity also implies a functional value with practicality and low-maintenance being a by-product of using high grade materials and fewer unnecessary flourishes.

Color Combination

Color is one of the most rewarding elements of the landscape, but also the one that represents perhaps the greatest challenge when it comes to working on its intervention. Since vision is the first sense that we use to obtain a perception of space, the appropriate use of color is essential, since it affects the observer’s state of mind, as well as the understanding of the place where he is. Color is present in each and every one of the elements of a landscape, contributing, on the one hand, to give it a particular character, and on the other, to establish the chromatic synthesis of a landscape image
